Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is an aesthetic procedure that lightens the teeth and gives them a solid colour. In some cases, to achieve the best result, this procedure is performed before dental prosthetics or aesthetic fillings.

Before undergoing teeth whitening, it is important to remember that fillings, crowns, or veneers do not whiten, so they may need to be replaced after the whitening procedure. The effect of teeth whitening is individual and depends on the patient's enamel structure, diet, harmful habits, and age. It is also essential to ensure that the patient's teeth are not affected by cavities and, if necessary, to perform a professional oral hygiene procedure. Once good oral health is confirmed, a specialist will select the appropriate products and methods for whitening your teeth during a consultation.

The procedure takes up to 1.5 hours. This method causes less tooth sensitivity than other whitening procedures typically performed in a dental office. During the procedure, the gums are protected with a special material, and a higher concentration gel is used to achieve effective results.

The gel is activated by cold, blue LED light. The whitening agent does not enter the body. The initial results are visible immediately, with the final outcome appearing after 48 hours, as the whitening agents continue to work. At the end of the procedure, the teeth are coated with a desensitising gel to ensure there is no discomfort.

After the whitening procedure, teeth may be slightly sensitive, but this sensitivity will disappear within a few days. It is recommended to avoid highly staining foods and drinks (such as coffee and red wine) and to refrain from smoking.

For this method, impressions of the upper and lower jaws are taken, and custom-fit, nearly invisible whitening trays are made in the laboratory for each patient. At home, the trays are filled with a whitening gel prescribed by the dentist and then placed over the teeth.

The trays should be worn for at least 4 hours per day or overnight. This gradual whitening method achieves the desired effect through repeated procedures over a course of 10 to 14 days. Results can be seen after just two weeks.

If the teeth become very sensitive, it is advisable to take a one or two-day break between whitening sessions.
